早稲田大学では，2004年度から国際教養学部を新設した． 国際教養学部は，全学生の3割から4割が海外からの留学生で構成されており， 将来的には約半数を留学生が占めることが予測される． 英語と日本語を教育における共通言語とし，英語によって学位を取得することが可能となった． 早稲田大学メディアネットワークセンターでは，国際教養学部の新設に伴い， 専門チームを設立しドキュメントの多言語化を進めている．
