Kajico is a hybrid alternative space integrating an accommodation facility, residency-based artistic production and exhibition, an event venue, and a community-hall function. Operating through the lease and adaptive use of a traditional house (kominka) situated within a designated historic preservation district, Kajico has implemented, in addition to lodging services, an artist-in-residence program inviting four artists for on-site production, the organization of approximately sixty public events, and the opening of the facility to local residents as a civic community space. The project has recorded approximately eight hundred visitors and three hundred forty-eight overnight guests.
Kajico has received grant support from the Okayama Art Summit/Okayama City Arts Festival, the Fukutake Education and Culture Foundation, and the Asahi Beer Arts and Culture Foundation. With additional support from the Asahi Art Festival, it has developed inter-regional exchanges with related initiatives and has organized affiliated events in multiple localities, including Aomori.
