A book display and a participatory artwork developed for this exhibition. Visitors select a passage from the books on the walk-through bookshelves, transcribe it onto a sticky note, and post it on the wall adjacent to the book’s location. Articulations extracted by participants circulate to others through the wall surface, taking form as a commons within the exhibition space.
Here, “articulation” is used in an expanded sense to designate communicative acts across modalities—verbal and nonverbal, textual and vocal, semantic and embodied—without privileging closure, definitiveness, or effortless legibility. The project seeks to open the articulations that remain bound/enclosed within books, while resisting modes of communication that demand resolution: definitive statements, categorical assertions, and an insistence on clarity that permits no margin. By allowing moments of “stumbling” in articulation—hesitation, reluctance, and wavering—the work proposes a site in which articulation can be reopened rather than sealed. A workshop will also be held."
