Summary

On April 6, 2009 a large earthquake occurred in L’Aquila(Italy) causing 309 victims. For the death of 29 of them 7 experts(4 scientists, 2 Civil Protection Directors, 1 seismologist) were accused who announced “Safety Declaration” a few days before the main shock. In October 2012 all experts were found guilty. In 2014 the General Court has changed the judgment and only the Vice President of Protezione Civile Department was found guilty. It was reported differently in Japan. The reason for being indicted was not the failure of earthquake prediction. Despite having lots of media, there was absolutely no useful information for L’Aquila citizens. Moreover “Safety Declaration” news may have increased the number of victims. Eventually television may also be guilty, because in the diverse media environment, it is necessary to consider not the amount but the source of information.
