I specialize in Western art history, with a particular focus on Renaissance art in 16th-century Italy and Germany, and I teach classes to students on this subject.
When walking through Italian towns, I often find unexpected beauty and intrigue in the works of lesser-known artists housed in small alleyway churches or relatively obscure museums. Art history is a fascinating field—an established branch of historical studies. Although it involves reflecting on artworks created in the past, the works themselves are tangible and visible to us in the present. In that sense, it is a discipline that allows us to feel a connection with the artists of the past and the people in history who once appreciated their works.
I strive to convey the richness and grandeur of art history by incorporating my own research experiences and encounters with artworks in Europe. I hope that, when you travel to Europe or visit a Western art exhibition at a museum in Japan, you’ll recall something from our class that enhances your appreciation of the art.
